recorded in 2006 and recently reaching the amazon bestseller chart after 3 weeks as no 1 chill out album the sublime “helium” from the collective urban myth club is not exactly new but it deserves a listen…and it contains a track which seems destined to become our theme tune… “sanctuary”…
and I will cross a thousand seas
if you could be near to me
the angel voices draw me in
and everything its meant to be
the stars in whispers beckon me
the gravity you will always win
i am in too deep…i am fallingand you make me breathe
in this sanctuary
it is calling me

1• first up some multi-layered trippy/hippy/dance from “alpinisms” from school for seven bells. with some echoes of goldfrapp but with more texture!
2• one of my personal favourites george evelyn aka nightmares on wax has a new album out called “thought so…” it’s stripped back, soulful and funky – check out “da feeling” – as an added bonus itunes has an ep built around “da feeling”
3• for something decidedly left field and/or if you have a thing for world music how about the incredibly haunting sjahin during’s “afro anatolian tales” (www.sjahinduring.com/) turn off the lights, put on your phones and listen to “otro mundo” now thats an experience to get the hairs on the back of your neck dancing!
4• finally, still classed as “world” but more dance this time… another quality collection of tunes, beats and collaborations from nitin sawnhey… “london undersound”… the track “days of fire” with natty delves into city life post the 7/7 terrorist attacks, in fact the reality of city life flows through the whole album. featuring tina grace, imogen heap, sir paul mccartney etc. and a separate commentary for each track from sawnhey with anthony gormley .
if you haven’t got sawhney’s previous albums on your pod, get them! for my money “philtre” is one of the most beautiful albums around mixing soaring indian vocals with killer beats, bass lines etc.

happy new year to all who’ve visited sank•tuary, to all who have helped get us up and running and to all our hard working volunteers!
last night/this morning was a busy and buzzing night! we had our first ambulance call as well as several walking wounded… but on the up side we had a constant flow of people who wanted to chill out (or warm up), hang, drink and eat, sober up, chat etc. all seemed to really value what we are doing and loved the venue and the atmosphere… here’s to an ongoing and growing sank•tuary in 2009!
